The reality is that a game is a sum of all parts that fulfill the expectations of the player. Near life graphics do not make a great game only a beautiful one. The AI does not make the game play unique but the design of the player experience does. Anyone striving to become a game developer needs to understand and accept these simple truths. Finally a game is only as good as the development team that designs it. That being said keep striving for what you believe is the perfect game because the players will enjoy it more as long as you enjoy it.
